Why treat the pelvic floor?
Pelvic floor health plays an important role in strength and stability; sexual arousal, function, and pleasure; pregnancy and delivery; protection of your pelvic organs; staying dry; and prevention of pain in areas such as your back, abdomen, and hips. Yet, most people receive little to no information regarding how to use or care for their pelvic floor.
Pelvic floor physical therapy is considered an effective first-line treatment for many symptoms related to pelvic floor dysfunction.
Pain in or near the genitals
Unexplained pain in the low back, hips, or abdomen
Urinary or fecal incontinence
Feeling like you need to use the bathroom frequently
Chronic UTIs but the culture will come back negative
Difficulty with initiating urination or with having a bowel movement
A sensation of heaviness, fullness, bulging, or aching in your genitals that worsens by the end of the day
Inability to orgasm, or pain associated with doing so
